Road traffic accidents can end a military career
Even the safest of drivers can be injured in a road traffic accident due to the negligence of another, and the consequences for military personnel can be particularly life-changing.
That’s because an injury for someone in the military could lead to them no longer meeting Military Medical Standards, causing them to be medically downgraded both during treatment and if they fail to recover sufficiently.
It’s a career-ending outcome, even where the injury is minor.
Negligence in road traffic accidents can happen for many different reasons including where a driver:
- Has failed to take due care and attention of other road users;
- Has failed to stop in time;
- Is under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
- Has a known medical condition and should not have been driving;
- Is speeding;
- Has failed to properly maintain the vehicle.
Those in the Armed Forces who are involved in a road traffic accident are at risk of facing medical discharge, meaning loss of career and future promotion or pension prospects.
We understand not only how traumatic a road accident can be but also how upsetting losing a military career can be. A personal injury claim in these circumstances is not always straightforward but we are here to help and support.
A civil claim can mean those responsible are held to account and the survivor is compensated for the negative effects on their life. Compensation could include loss of future earnings, home adaptions, equipment to enhance your life, future care costs or costs to pay for private treatment and rehabilitation.
